Local services squeezed

December 2, 2016 2:46 PM

Services that we used to take for granted are being cut down or are disappearing from Bury St Edmunds altogether.

The Tourist Information Centre on Angel Hill is closed, the Bus Station Information building is closed, the Brown Bin Scheme for recycling has ended, Bury St Edmunds Magistrates Court is closed and the historic town centre Victorian Post Office is closed.

Some of these cuts have been made by outside agencies (eg the Post Office Crown network). Others, though, have been made by the council itself.

Services for local people need to be protected, not reduced. Service providers should be given every encouragement to remain in the town and continue to help the local community.
