Save or spend?

November 29, 2016 3:02 PM

St Edmundsbury Borough Council holds money in reserve to cover emergencies, overspend, etc. This is prudent. The Council holds £67million in reserve for this.

It also holds £35million in reserve which is not allocated to anything. This unallocated reserve has increased by £4million pounds this year.

The question is, why put yet more money into reserves unnecessarily when it could be used to benefit the community and protect services? After all, it is the community which elects the council.
