In Bury St Edmunds, A&E ran into the buffers after Christmas. West Suffolk Hospital hit 100 per cent capacity at the start of the new year.

Across the country, patients faced cancelled operations and long delays at A&E as the NHS struggled through another winter crisis. Almost 1 in 4 people had to wait more than four hours at A&E - the highest number on record. Staffing shortages and a lack of beds are blamed on the Conservatives' failure to invest.
