Bury St Edmunds election result

8 May 2010

Thanks to all who helped in the campaign. We give them a good run for their money in Bury St Edmunds.

Name Party Votes % +/-

David Ruffley Conservative 27,899 47.5 +1.2

David Chappell Liberal Democrat 15,519 26.4 +6.7

Kevin Hind Labour 9,776 16.6 -10.7

John Howlett UK Independence Party 3,003 5.1 +1.6

Mark Ereira-Guyer Green 2,521 4.3 +1.3

Majority 12,380 21.1

Turnout 58,718 69.3 +2.5

This was 2.8% swing from Con to Lib Dems.

Our vote rose from 10,423 in 2005 to 15,519. A very creditable increase in our vote of 50%.

We must now build on this result and the local Tories financial problems by ensuring we put together an effective campaign for the 2011 district and borough elections making sure we pull together all the extra help we received during this election.
