Liberal Democrats slam Suffolk County Council for Insulation Incompetence
Suffolk Liberal Democrats have slammed Suffolk County Council for not utilising up to £5 million of funding for insulating Suffolk homes.
The council was given £8.4 million under the Green Homes Grant scheme, which is where vouchers up to £5000 are given to households with a D, E, F or G energy efficiency rating to help improve insulation in their homes, as long as the 1/3 of the costs are paid by the homeowners. However, the council has only spent £3.3 million of this allotted funding, meaning that approximately up to 1000 Suffolk homes are missing out on funding to lower their energy bills that has been available to residents for years.
Helen Korfanty, Chair of West Suffolk Liberal Democrats, said:
“It is disgraceful that residents in our area have had to face higher energy bills for years due to the council not effectively promoting this scheme to residents.”
“This puts on full display the current incompetence and dysfunction at Suffolk County Council. We desperately need a change in personnel to make sure that our community and the whole of Suffolk benefits from the opportunities that are given to us.”
“If you think you might be eligible for the scheme please contact Suffolk County Council as they now only have 6 months to spend the rest of the funding.”
